1950 Mercury "Lead Sled"
This custom built 1950 Mercury "Lead Sled" was originally started by Paul Boyce of Delores, Colorado in the 1980's. It has an all steel body on a Chevelle frame that was extended 6". It was chopped 4"; the head lights and tail lights were "Frenched"; and it was shaved. It was acquired in January 2007 by Roger & Mary London of Los Alamos, NM after spending several years in the outdoors.
The entire car was disassembled, sand blasted and rust coated. It was fitted with air-ride suspension, front disc brakes and a 9" Ford rear end. It has a 350 Chevrolet Crate motor with two 4-barrel carbs, a cam and a turbo 350 transmission. The white tuck-and-roll upholstery was done by Mild to Wild in Albuquerque. The engine installation, completion of the body work and paint was done by Fidel Naranjo of Los Alamos. The car has won numerous awards including best in class, best custom and people's choice.
